ELEVATOR APPARATUS

To provide an elevator apparatus that includes a safety device where increases in dimension in an up/down direction and weight of a riding car are suppressed. The elevator apparatus according to the present invention 5 includes a limit switch (21) disposed near an upper and/or a lower terminal floor of a hoistway, and an operation member (24) that is disposed on a riding car (1) and operates the limit switch (21). When the operation member (24) contacts the limit switch (21), the riding car (1) is 10 detected to exceed an ordinary operation range, and an operation of a hoisting machine is stopped to stop hoisting of the riding car (1).
