ELECTRONIC PAYMENT SYSTEMS AND METHODS

An electronic payment system and method involving settlement arrangements between banks and customers following an electronic payment in which a message is automatically sent to a customer device in real time with an invitation for the customer to pay for all or part of the transaction amount other than by a charge to the customer card account, such as by redeeming points or by converting the transaction amount to an equal payments plan. The message contains a link to a microsite of an online banking system which, when clicked on by the customer sends an acceptance of the offer to the online banking system. Upon receipt of the acceptance message, the payment is processed according to the accepted offer, and the customer's account is adjusted accordingly. FIGURE 1
