Oxidizing fatty acid or its ester of formula (H 3C-(CH 2) n-COOR) (I), comprises (a) contacting (I) with cytochrome P450-monooxygenase of cytochrome P153 (CYP153) family in presence of molecular oxygen and NADPH. R : H, CH 3, ethyl, propyl or butyl; and n : 0-30, preferably 6-24. An independent claim is also included for a whole-cell catalyst expressing a recombinant cytochrome P450 monooxygenase, a recombinant alcohol dehydrogenase, a recombinant transaminase and optionally at least one recombinant enzyme, preferably alanine dehydrogenase, ferredoxin or ferredoxin reductase.
