Zusammenfassung: | The amt. of residual monomer in a polymer latex, partic. vinyl chloride in PVC, is reduced by atomising the latex, obtained by emulsion of microsuspension polymerisation, in a closed vessel where the press. is such that the b.pt. of water there is pref. 60-80 degrees C, using a current of water vapour of temp. pref. >b.pt. of water in the vessel, e.g. 60-200, pref. 100-180 degrees C. The gas contg. monomer is drawn off and the latex is collected and removed. The process removes residual monomer from the polymer latex without destroying the latex or adversely affecting its properties, without an accumulation of polymer deposits, and the residual monomer can be readily recovered. |
