The welded mesh reinforcement for load bearing slabs etc., provides uniformity of reinforcement throughout the span despite moment variation (i.e. from zero at supports to maximum at mid span) and has greater concentrations steel area per unit length of mesh in specified areas. A typical mesh has bars and in respectively transverse and longitudinal spaced positions, with reduced spacing in central zones produced by extra longitudinal bars. The mesh may have larger diameter bars in the central zones or simply closer bar spacing.
