1413100 Seaming non-metallic sheet material DYNAMIT NOBEL AG 13 Sept 1974 [14 Sept 1973] 40119/74 Heading B5K A pair of abutting sheets 1, 2 of foamed synthetic plastics material are joined by pressing on to the sheets 1, 2, over the line 3 of abutment thereof, a strip 4 of metal foil heated to a temperature above the softening temperature of the synthetic plastics material. A device for applying the strip 4, e.g. of aluminium, comprises a handle 5 and a parallel pair of T-shaped linkages, comprising limbs 7, 8, connected to a hexagonal holding device 6. The limbs 7 support, at one end, a supply reel 9 for the strip 4 and, at the other end, a support roller 10. The limbs 8 support a pressure roller 11. A heating source 13, e.g. a hot air nozzle, as shown, or gas flame or electrical heating means, is supported by the device 6. The foil strip 4 may be coated with a heat activatable adhesion promotor, e.g. the material as that of the sheets. Specified foamed plastics are soft polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, polyurethane and partially cross-linked polyethylene.
