Heat exchanger of counterflow type where cool air enters through a pipe 24, and goes through tubular channels 17, made up of several pieces with openings to the air channel plates 30, which are arranged in the exchanger core in sandwiched layers with hot gas channels and leaves through similar channel 16, and tube 28, as hot air. Hot gas enters through tube 22, goes through its channels in counterflow to air to leave through tube exit 23. The tubular parts that form channel 16 have sections of larger diameters at their ends and form a chamber. Slots in these tubes are provided at angular position to form a shutter. This controls the air flow by gradually changing its direction, avoids a fall in pressure, and gives an even flow through the air channels of the exchanger core.
