Zusammenfassung:1498897 Coated glass bottles BASF AG 7 May 1975 [14 May 1974] 19115/75 Heading B2E A method of coating a glass bottle comprises applying an aqueous heat sensitised emulsion of a polymer of one or more olefinically unsaturated monomers to the surface of a bottle preheated to above the gel point of the emulsion and drying the coated bottle at an elevated temperature. The bottle may be preheated to 40 to 110‹C which is 5‹C above the gel point of the emulsion. The emulsion may be applied by dipping. Suitable heat sensitisers are water-soluble polyacetals, oxyalkylated polysiloxanes, cationic substances, and, preferably, oxalkylated amines having inverse solubility characteristics. Other additives include protective colloids, blowing agents e.g. azo-bis-isobutylronitrile, fillers and metal bronzes. Suitable polymers include: certain copolymers of butadiene with styrene and/or acrylonitrile; homopolymers and copolymers of C 1-12 alkyl acrylates and/or methacrylates, which may contain minor amounts of styrene and/or acrylonitrile; copolymers of vinyl acetate with vinyl laurate or ethylene, or with ethylene and acrylic esters mentioned above; copolymers of 1, 3 dienes with methacrylic, acrylic or vinyl esters which may contain small amounts of acrylic, methacrylic, cootonic, itaconic and/or maleic acids or their Na salts, amides or N-alkylolamides, diallyl phthalate, or diesters of acrylic and methacrylic acid with α, #-alkylenediols.
