The electricity meter phase compensator has a short circuiting winding surrounding the gap in the current magnetic circuit, this winding is mounted in series with a resistance loop whose resistance can be modified by the displacement of a contact piece. The short circuiting winding is in the form of a single turn band and is placed around the gap together with the resistance loop and is fixed by support pieces designed to carry current around the magnetic cct. The short circuiting band and resistance loop are formed from pressings and are folded or bent into shape. The resistance loop is made from a high temp. coeff. material such as copper.
