Zusammenfassung: | 1405645 Polyolefin derivatives RHONEPROGIL 13 Nov 1972 [17 Nov 1971] 52242/72 Heading C3P [Also in Division C5] Dispersants for lubricating and fuel oils are prepared by completely neutralizing with an ashless nitrogenous basic compound an esterification product of reaction of at least one mono- or polyhydroxy compound with at least one polyolefin substituted carboxylic acid, anhydride, chloride or ester, the residual acidity of said esterification product being such that its complete neutralization requires an amount of nitrogenous basic compound corresponding to a minimum nitrogen content of 0À9 weight per cent in the final mixture. The carboxylic compound may be a reaction product of an unsaturated carboxylic compound, e.g. acrylic, methacrylic, maleic, fumaric or itaconic acids or derivatives, with polyethylene, polypropylene, polybutylene, polyisobutylene or a chlorinated polyolefin. Esterification may be effected in the presence of a catalyst and/or entraining solvent, and the ashless base may be ammonia, an aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic monoamine, or an alkylene polyamine, urea, thiourea, hydrazine or cyanamide. Many suitable hydroxy compounds are specified and examples describe the reaction of polyisobutylene/maleic anhydride reaction products with (1 and 3) pentaerythritol and tetraethylene pentamine, (2) glycerol and triethylene tetramine, (4 and 6) phenol and tetraethylene pentamine and (5) phenol and triethylene tetramine; and of chlorinated polyisobutylene/acrylic acid reaction products with (7) pentaerythritol and tetraethylene pentamine and (8) diphenylolpropane and tetraethylene pentamine. |
