A detergent composition comprises particles of substantially uniform pock-marked spongeous structure containing spheroidal voids and formed of irregularly shaped coherent aggregates of amorphous and crystalline materials including unoriented crystalline platelets, which particles carry a powdered enzyme on their surface. The composition preferably includes a builder salt such as alkaline hydratable polyphosphates, sodium silicate, trisodium orthophosphate, sodium sulphate, sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate or other alkaline and neutral builder salts. The detergent employed is preferably a water-soluble synthetic organic detergent which may be anionic or non-ionic or a mixture of the two. The composition may also contain organic colloidal materials with soil-suspending properties such as sodium CMC, polyvinyl alcohol or other acidic vinyl polymers or copolymers or their alkali metal salts; heat-sensitive materials such as sodium perborate or amine oxides; melamine, optical brighteners, preservatives and dyes.
