1331274 Clamps AMERICAN AIR FILTER CO Inc 23 Oct 1970 [23 Oct 1969] 50563/70 Heading E2B [Also in Division B1] A fixed filter housing (Fig. 1, not shown) accommodates two rows of filter cells 15 which are clamped against respective peripheral seals 30 on the housing by horizontal bars 13, each secured by pivoted links 21 to a respective horizontal housing member 12 so that when bar 13 is moved longitudinally by over-centre linkage 16, 17 the bar is constrained to move transversely to force the frames of the cells against their seals. Fig. 3 shows the intermediate bar 13, which is really two bars combined engaging the lower edges of the top row and the upper edges of the bottom row of cells 15 in L-section extensions 5 of the bars. The housing is basically an open frame bridged by individual frames (11) bearing seals 30. Each seal comprises four strips of the hollow crosssection shown, which is designed to deform resiliently and make an edge seal with the frame of the corresponding cell. Tongue portions 34 of the seals engage slidably in tracks integral with the housing. Two strips of each seal are made longer than the spacing between the two other strips and when forced into said spacing with their ends abutting the sides of the other strips.
