The wood preservative may be a fungicide such as a cresol or a nitrogen-containing compound, e.g. a salt such as the calcium and potassium salts of N-nitrosocyclohexylhydroxylamine, and/or a flame-proofing, water-proofing and/or oilproofing agent, and/or a polymerisable monomer chosen for example from acrylic esters and vinyl compounds, or a condensible monomer such as a methylol or alkoxymethyl derivative of urea or of a polyamino-S-triazine or of a phenol. The phosphate ester may be triisopropyl-, tri-n-butyl-, tri-hexyl-, tri-isobutyl-, tricyclohexyl- or tricresyl-phosphate or 2- ethoxy-2-oxo-1,3,2-dioxaphosphorinane. Preferably at least one third by weight of the composition is the phosphoric ester.
