1297147 1,3,4-Thiadiazolyl-(5)-urea BAYER AG 26 Nov 1969 [23 Dec 1968 10 Feb 1969 21 July 1969] 57886/69 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of formula wherein R is hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl, alkinyl, cycloalkyl, alkylmercapto, alkenylmercapto, alkinylmercapto, aralkylmercapto (the aryl radical of which may be substituted by Cl or -NO 2 group), alkylsulphoxyl, alkylsulphonyl, aralkylsulphoxyl, aralkylsulphonyl, alkyloxy or RIV-CO(CH 2 ) n S-, in which RIV is hydroxy, alkoxy, amino, alkylamino or arylamino (which may be substituted by chlorine); n is 1, 2, 3 or 4; R1 is an alkyl; R11 is H or alkyl; and R111 is an alkyl group. These compounds may be prepared by reacting a 5-amino- 1,3,4-thiadiazole of formula with (a) R111-N = C = O or (b) Hal-OCNR11R111; or by reacting a urethane of formula with an amine of formula HNR11R111. Many compounds are listed in Example I. The invention also comprises a herbicidal composition containing as an active ingredient a compound of Formula I in admixture with a solid or liquid diluent or carrier. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,195,672.
