1386510 Priming centrifugal pumps C B PETTERSSON 25 Oct 1972 [25 Oct 1971] 49134/72 Heading F1C The pump outlet conduit has a first opening into a chamber for receiving liquid from the outlet conduit, the chamber being in communication with the pump housing via at least one additional opening in a wall of the pump housing, a second opening from the outlet conduit into an upper part of the chamber, and a valve plate pivotally mounted in the outlet conduit to extend transversely to the outlet conduit between the first and second openings to close the outlet conduit when pressure therein is below a predetermined value and pivotable to a position in which it opens the outlet conduit and closes the second opening when the pressure reaches or exceeds the predetermined value. Priming liquid passes from a priming reservoir 15 via openings 23 into the impeller chamber 1 and is pumped into the discharge conduit 4. The conduit 4 is blocked by a valve flap 26, and the liquid is diverted via an opening 24 back to the reservoir 15 for recirculation. Separated air is discharged via an opening 25 leading into the discharge conduit 4 downstream of the valve flap 26. On completion of priming, the discharged liquid moves the valve flap 26 against the action of e.g. a spring into a position in which it closes the opening 25.
