An electromagnetic relay having an E-shaped core and yoke 1 with a coil 3c on the central limb 1a and a U-shaped armature 2 mounted on a frame spring 4 has a projection 3a, on its coil former 3, against which the armature 2 and spring 4 bear, when the relay is de-energized, and the bias and retaining force at the armature pivot are preset by bending the spring 4 through an angle α before assembly of the relay. The former 3 is accurately located on the core limb (1a) by internal projections (Fig. 1a, not shown). The legs of the U-shaped armature 2 engage conical projections on yoke limbs 1b and rock about these in operation. The spring 4 is riveted to the core and yoke 1 at 5 and is bent round the yoke to form an earth plug connector 4c.
