In a gap-tube electric motor, liquid-tight seals are eliminated by making the gap tube 4 integrally with a cover 5, which closes the front end of the stator chamber in a pot-shaped motor casing 1, by drawing, pressing &c. plastic deformation of the cover material. Thermal expansion of the tube is permitted by supporting its integral end closure wall 41 on an annular flange 411 which is axially slidable on an annular shoulder 6 on the casing base wall 11. Transparent windows may be inserted in the walls 11, 41 opposite the shaft end.
