At least one seat (120) of filtration module (122) is located on external wall (150) of basic structure (116) and/or is integrated into outer wall (150) of basic structure (116). At least one filter module (122) is configured to be mounted on at least one seat (120) of filter module (122) by abutting against outer wall (150). Second version of filtration unit (112) includes at least one socket (184) of filter element (182) and at least one replacement device (208) for automatically replacing heavily contaminated filter element (182) with less heavily contaminated filter element (182). Paint plant (100) for painting workpieces (102) includes at least one filtering unit (112). Method of separating contaminants from contaminated stream of unrefined gas by means of filter unit (112) includes supply of crude gas flow to filtering elements (182), deposition of impurities on filter elements (182), removal of filtration module (122) from and/or from seat (120) of filtering module (122), replacement of one or more filter elements in sockets (184) of heavily contaminated filter elements (182) on one or several less heavily contaminated filter elements (182), arrangement of filtration module (122) on and/or in seat (120) of filtering module.
