Hydrotreating process is described which consists in converting petroleum fractions having a boiling point higher than 360 °C, containing up to 3.5 % sulfur and up to 0.2 % nitrogen at a temperature of 360-420 °C, pressure 9.0-20.0 MPa, consumption of raw materials 0.5-1.5 h, a hydrogen / feed volume ratio of 800-2,000 nm/min the presence of a heterogeneous catalyst containing, mass%: [Ni(HO)][MoO(CHO)] 29.0-36.0; boron in the form of surface compounds 0,4-1,6; carrier - the rest; wherein the carrier comprises, mass%: aluminum borate AlBOwith the structure of norbergite - 5.0-25.0; sodium - no more than 0,03; γ-AlO- the rest. Aluminum borate AlBOwith the structure of norbergite is a particle with dimensions from 10 to 200 nm, characterized by interplanar distances of 3.2 and 2.8 Å, with an angle between them of 53.8°, and boron in the form of surface compounds is characterized by absorption bands of 930-1040, 1,230, 1,385-1,450 and 3,695 cmin IR spectra. Catalyst contains strong Broensted acidic sites, determined by the IR method from low-temperature adsorption data of CO, 2-6 mcmol/g (PA (affinity to the proton) = 1,180-1,200 kJ/mol) and Bronsted acidic sites of medium strength 30-60 mcmol/g (PA = 1,250-1,260 kJ/mol), and has a specific surface of 130-180 m/g, a pore volume of 0.35-0.65 cm/g, an average pore diameter of 10-15 nm, and is a particle with a section in the form of a circle, trefoil or quatrefoil.
