TECHNIQUE OF FILM GRAIN IMITATION WITH HELP OF DATABASE OF FILM GRAIN PATTERNS

FIELD: physics, processing of images. ^ SUBSTANCE: invention deals with visual imitation of film grain. The method proposed envisages generation of a film grain effect block of pixels with individual pixels within the image block becoming blended with film grain from the film grain block randomly chosen (depending on the image block brightness) from among the pre-installed array (18) of film grain pattern blocks. Before blending proper the selected film grain block undergoes reconfiguration carried out with the help of a recombination filter (28). Blending over, the cropping module (32) does the cropping of individual pixels preceding the image. The array of film grain blocks (18) is generated through scaling the film grain patterns set based on at least a single parameter of the film grain info message accompanying the image block. ^ EFFECT: elaboration of efficient film grain imitation technique providing for minimisation of memory bandwidth requirements and amount of computation. ^ 15 cl, 2 dwg, 2 tbl
