According to proposed method surface of part is coated with hardening agent which hardening agent and place to be hardened are subjected to heating. Hardening agent has the following ratio of components, mas.%:: FeO and/or Fe2O3 and/or Fe3O4, 1.0-91.6; admixtures 0.01-8.0; graphite and/or soot, the balance. Place to be hardened in heated to 700-1500 C and is held under said temperature for 2-300 s. Heating of place in process of hardening can be carried out using high- frequency or commercial frequency currents, electric arc, plasma or gas burners.
