SUBSTANCE: method includes loading into shaft furnace of charge containing lumped oxide-bearing nickel-containing ore and fuel-reducer; reduction-sulfdizing smelting. Fuel-reducer is used in form of metallurgical coke and commercial bituminous coal with volatile substances yield of not in excess of 14 wt.% preferably, not above 7 wt.%: with ash content within 20 wt.%, preferably, not above 10 wt.%, and thermal stability, at least, 70%, preferably, not less than 80%, taken indefinite ratio.
