Zusammenfassung:nonferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: in order to produce manganese concentrates for ferromanganese production, low-grade manganese-containing ores, for instance sea ferromanganese concretions and, in particular, those with high phosphorus and silicon levels are classified to isolate iron and manganese-containing grainy portion with fineness -10+0.044 mm and fine fraction below 0.044 mm. Grainy portion is subjected to disintegration and additional classification to give grainy portion with fineness -1+0.044 mm and fine fraction 0.044 mm. Grainy portion is dried and subjected to reductive firing at 550-650 C. Resulting product is cooled and subjected to magnetic separation in low magnetic field to give magnetic product enriched with iron and phosphorus and nonmagnetic product with up to 30% magnesium. Nonmagnetic product is subjected to magnetic separation in strong magnetic field to give second magnetic product: manganese concentrate with 40-50% manganese and nonmagnetic product enriched with silicates or silicates and nonferrous metals. Reductive firing is effected with addition of 8-12% of reducing agent based on starting material and using coal and/or peat or coke as reducing agent. Fine manganese-containing fractions after the two classifications are combined and subjected to hydrometallurgical processing to recover manganese.
