SUBSTANCE: method involves visually controlling breathing mixture pressure in balloon of self-contained apparatus; connecting hose to blow-through pipe on frame; blowing the hose through prior to supplying breathing mixture from working source; connecting hose to switching device. In case supplying of breathing mixture via main pipe from breathing mixture working source is interrupted, system for supplying of breathing mixture from self-contained device is automatically switched and audio signal is simultaneously generated. Supplying of breathing mixture from working source is resumed by closing valve of balloon of self-contained device without interrupting individual's breathing. Audio signal is automatically is interrupted, the system of self-contained supplying device is changed over to working source, with following opening of valve on balloon of self-contained device. Self-contained system has part carried by individual and including balloon with valve, reducer, change-over device connected with reducer and lungmotor via pipe made integral with change-over device. Method and self-contained apparatus serve to protect respiratory organs, as well as visual organs, for effectuating gas hazardous and emergency works and for working in medium unfit for breathing, and allow protective time of self-contained system to be increased and, consequently, time of staying of individual in hazardous zone to be prolonged due to providing waiting state for self-contained device.
