description fiber optics. SUBSTANCE: 35% polysilicic acid sol is poured into apparatus and frozen by liquid nitrogen, liquid oxygen, liquid ammonia, or liquid inert gases. Intake and temperature of cooling agent are maintained such as to provide value of specific heat current through sol-ice interface equal to (0.8-15) x 103 J/sq.m s. One hour after freezing, heating is turned on and formed gel is unfrozen. Solid and liquid phases are separated. Silicon dioxide thus obtained is dried and thermally treated to give product with specified granulometric composition with deviation from major fraction no more than by 20%. Product can be used for manufacture of quartz optic fiber. EFFECT: optimized preparation parameters. 1 tbl
