Strain Vibrio cholerae 0139 serovara is isolated from the natural source, namely water of Ob river. Strain is hemolytic with respect to sheep erythrocytes, it has no virulence for rabbit-weanlings and does not produce choleraic enterotoxin since it has no operon ctx AB.
