Vaporous coating composition is directed toward substrate and vapors are withdrawn into several withdrawal zones. These zone are located at different distances from coating zone and/or withdrawal velocities are different. Substrate contains transparent basis and amorphous coating consisting of one or several mixed metal oxides and up to 15 at.% of element (phosphorus, aluminum, or boron) dispersed therein. Vaporous coating composition contains oxygen-containing gas and from 0.0001 to 5 mol.% of silicon-containing precursor with formula R2R3R4SiOR1.
