METHOD FOR MAKING ARTHRODESIS OF THE FIRST AND SECOND METACARPAL BONES IN CASES OF THUMB OPPOSITION

FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves making classic irregular skin cut on the back surface of the hand between the first and the second metacarpal bones. After skin and fascia being cut without muscle being dissected, lateral surfaces of the first and the second metacarpal bones are exposed. The thumb is set in required position, exact distance between the bones is measured at the place the cross-piece is set. The first metacarpal bone split 1 is placed from its proximal end to the point cross-piece 3 is positioned or from the distal end to the point cross-piece 3 is positioned depending on bone thickness and distance between them. Split 2 of the second metacarpal bone is placed from its distal end to the point cross-piece 3 is positioned or from the proximal end to the point cross-piece 3 is positioned. The splits are bent to meet each other. Split surfaces are brought in engagement and the splits are fixed in this position.
