Zusammenfassung:FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves cooling metal strip in roller-type quenching unit of thermal treatment line by moving low-width nozzles above hot low-width W-shaped portions ; evacuating cooling gas to hot portions, with pressure and flow rate of cooling gas being regulated by special device. Method allows concentric cooling of hot portions to be provided and, as a result, nonuniform temperature distribution to be eliminated. Apparatus has at least two nozzle heads extending through metal strip in axial alignment with cooling roller axes. Width of nozzle heads is less than that of metal strips. Nozzle heads are positioned for movement along cooling rollers advancement path. At least one nozzle head is positioned for movement along roller axis. Apparatus has gas control device for regulating pressure or flow rate of cooling gas delivered to each nozzle head. EFFECT: increased efficiency and provision for uniform temperature distribution. 69 cl, 61 dwgr
