SUBSTANCE: method for measuring value of thermoelectromotive force of tool-blank thermocouple at working metal with chipping comprises steps of preliminarily measuring resistance of oil films of bearing units at idle operation of machine tool in speed range exceeding zone of forming builtup edge. When said resistance is equal to 100 Ohm or more useful signal of thermoelectromotive force of operational cutting modes is registered with the aid of peak detector as filter for separating parasitic thermoelectromotive forces and time moment of stable chipping beginning is fixed.
