The invention relates the benzomidazole derivatives having a chemical structure corresponding to the formula (I) and to salts and esters thereof, pharmaceutically acceptable, to analogue processes for preparing derivatives and to a pharmaceutical composition containing said derivatives having therapeutic and prophylactic effects in viral infections produced by herpesvirus, herpes simplex virus type 1, herpes simplex type 2, the varicella and zona zoster virus, cytomegalovirus, Epstein-Barr virus, human herpes type 6, and human herpes virus type 7. Inventia se refera la derivati de benzimidazol avand structura chimica corespunzatoare formulei (I) precum si la sarurile sau esterii lor acceptabili farmaceutic, la procedee analoage pentru prepararea lor, la intermediarul pentru prepararea derivatilor si la compozitia farmaceutica cu acesti derivati, care au efecte terapeutice si profilactice in infectiile virale produse de herpesvirus, virusul herpes simplex 1, herpes simplex 2, virusul varicelei si al zonei zoster, citomegalovirus, virusul Epstein Bar, virusul herpesului uman 6 si virusul herpesului uman 7.
