description The invention relates to a process for manufacturing tramway or trolleybus aerial line insulators consisting in die casting a mixture comprising 100 g unsaturated polyesther resin with high or average reactivity, having 35+-1wt% styrene, up to 80 g ground talc, up to 100 g siliceous sand, up to 30 g roving glass yarn cut to a length of 5...20 mm, 1...2 g methylethyl ketone peroxide, 0.5...2 cobalt octoate solution in styrene, up to 10 g styrene, over a sheathing core made up of 20...40 g continuous roving glass yarn of 1,200...1,400 dtex, previously wound and impregnated with a polyesther mixture without filling material and afterwards subjected to hardening by three-dimensional block co-polymerization for 8...16 hours at a temperature of 23°C or for 2...6 hours at a temperature of 80°C. The resulting insulators have adequate resistance to flashover currents and ultraviolet rays, high mechanical resistance without oversizing the insulators and prevent the risk of body contact of the electric line when the insulating layer is fractured because of the shocks during operation.
