The compounds include analogues and derivatives of naturally occurring 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfuraldehyde, 5-Ethyl-2-furfuraldehyde, 5-Methyl-2furfuraldehyde, and 2-furfuraldehyde, and prodrug forms of the compound.
