The present invention relates to a laundry care appliance (100) comprising a recirculating pump system (105), which comprises a laundry drum (107) for receiving laundry, a lye container (109) for receiving washing lye, wherein the lye container (109) comprises an inlet opening (111) and a discharge opening (113), a line (115) which connects the inlet opening (111) and the discharge opening (113), and a pump (117) for pumping washing lye through the line (115), comprising a loading detection device (119) for detecting a weight of laundry in the laundry drum (107), comprising a power detection element (127) for detecting an electrical power value of the pump (117), comprising a washing lye delivery element (123) for delivering a volume of washing lye into the lye container (109), and a control element (131). The control element (131) is designed to determine an amount of washing lye bound to the laundry in the laundry drum (107) according to the volume of washing lye delivered and according to the detected electrical power value of the pump (117). The control element (131) is designed to change a laundry care programme according to the ratio of the determined volume of washing lye bound to the laundry and the detected weight of the laundry in the laundry drum (107).
