The two edges of the buttonhole, like the fabric edge (7), are formed by interruption of the rows of stitches. Also claimed is a knitting action where a group of neighbouring rows of stitches are interrupted to form one buttonhole edge and then resumed to form the other edge of the buttonhole. The knitting of the stitches is by an intarsia knitting action, with different yarn guides.
