Zusammenfassung:	A household appliance 1 comprises the following components: a fan 7 for moving air in an air flow passage 3 in a flow direction, a first heat exchanger 4 and a second heat exchanger 6 which are front and back disposed in the air flow passage 3 with respect to the flow direction, a cleaning means 5 for cleaning the first heat exchanger 4 with cleaning liquid W, wherein the cleaning means 5 and the fan 7 are operated, at least a part of the cleaning liquid W can be directed onto the second heat exchanger 6, and a collecting container 11 is used for containing the cleanining liquid W dripping from the second heat exchanger6; the fan 7 is operated according to liquid level L of the collecting container 11. A method for operating the household appliance is provided, wherein the fan 7 is operated according to liquid level L of the collecting container 7. The invention is particularly advantageously applicable to laundry dryers, in particular to circulating air clothes dryers. The invention is particularly advantageously applicable to domestic appliances with heat pumps.
