METHOD OF PHOSPHATE TREATING METAL SURFACES
In a process for phosphating metal surfaces, phosphating solutions are used which are substantially free of nickel and which contain 0.3 to 1.7 g/l of Zn 0.2 to 4.0 g/l of Mn 0.001 to 0.030, preferably 0.003 to 0.020 g/l of Cu 5 to 30 g/l of phosphate (calculated as P2O5) and in which the concentrat...

Zusammenfassung: | In a process for phosphating metal surfaces, phosphating solutions are used which are substantially free of nickel and which contain 0.3 to 1.7 g/l of Zn 0.2 to 4.0 g/l of Mn 0.001 to 0.030, preferably 0.003 to 0.020 g/l of Cu 5 to 30 g/l of phosphate (calculated as P2O5) and in which the concentration of Fe(II) is kept below 0.1 g/l by means of oxygen and/or other equivalent oxidising agents and the pH is adjusted to 3.0 to 3.8. The Cu:P2O5 weight ratio is preferably adjusted to 1:(170 to 30,000) and replenishment of Cu and P2O5 is carried out in a weight ratio of 1:(5 to 2000). When used in the spray process, the phosphating solutions should contain 0.3 to 1.0 g/l of Zn and, when used in the spray/dipping process and the dipping process, 0.9 to 1.7 g/l of Zn. The process is used especially for pretreating metal surfaces for subsequent coating, especially electrodipping coating, and phosphating of steel, galvanised steel, alloy-galvanised steel, aluminium and alloys thereof. |
