(I):- (where B is CH2 or CO; R1, R2, R3 and R4 is H, or 1-7C alkyl; R5 is H or halogen; R6 and R7 are H or together a supplementary C-N-bond, are prepd. by cyclisation of the acetanilide, reduction of the 7-acyl cpds., oxidn. of the 4,5-hydro-deriv., reduction of the 4,5-double bond or by replacing R3 = H or R2 = H by R3 or R2 = alkyl, or by reduction of B=CO to B=CH2. Thus (I, B = CO, R3 = R4 = R5 = H, R6+R7 = bond and R1R2(COH)-1-hydroxy-ethyl) is prepd. by reducing the 7-acetyl deriv. with NaBH4.
