EARTH MATERIAL GABION-TYPE LOW DAM

The present invention is about an eco-friendly, low dam used to impound or divert water. This dam is composed of gabion/geogrid cages, containing the filler/weight materials, to counteract the hydrostatic pressure and forces from the water, and a core material, composed of mixture of clay and organic materials contained in geotextile fabric, which will be used to control the seepage and the rate of flow of the water passing through the dam. The thickness of the core and its degree of compaction can be altered and determined based on the target dam water flow rate. The water that will pass through the core material of the dam will mix with the nutrients such as fulvic acid and humic acid, and shall be carried on to the plants, as natural fertilizer, when irrigated. Also, in conjunction with the nutrients, the water will also carry the chitinase enzyme, which may help dissolve exoskeletons of insects and cell walls of fungi, acting as a natural pesticide. The dam can be constructed in simple steps using more affordable materials and components. It can be built on different configurations in order to meet the various utilization of the structure aside from irrigation.
