1375758 Heavy-duty liquid detergent composition COLGATE-PALMOLIVE CO 21 Jan 1972 [25 Jan 1971] 3028/72 Heading C5D A heavy duty liquid detergent composition substantially devoid of phosphate and nitrogenous builders comprises (A) 8 to 30% wt. of water-soluble anionic synthetic organic detergent(s) of formula RO-(C 2 H 4 O) n SO 3 M wherein R is C 10 -C 20 fatty alkyl, n is 2 to 6 and is from 1/ 5 to 1/ 3 of the number of carbon atoms in R, and M is a solubilizing salt-forming ion, (B) 10-30% wt. of citric acid, a water-soluble citrate or a mixture thereof and (C) 15 to 80% of an aqueous solvent medium. Salts of (A) and (B) may be alkali metal, ammonium, amine and alkylolamine. (C) may be water containing up to 20% of an alcohol, glycol, glycerol or a glycol ether. Optional ingredients are (D) up to 15% of a hydrotrope, e.g. a salt of cumene sulphonate, benzene sulphonate, toluene sulphonate, xylene sulphonate or a mixture thereof, (E) up to 5% of a water-soluble alkali metal soap, (F) up to 10% wt. of a water-soluble carbonate, (G) up to 10% wt. of a water-soluble silicate, e.g. sodium silicate, (H) up to 1% of an optical brightener comprising a major proportion of a cotton brightener and a minor proportion of polyesteramide brightener, (J) foam improvers, e.g. lauryl dimethylamine oxide, (K) bactericides, e.g. tetrachlorosalicylanilide, (L) other surfactants other than cationic surfactants, (M) conventional detergent auxiliaries.
