Zusammenfassung:	The present invention provides a method of treating an intracellular infection in a subject wherein the method comprises administering to the subject an IAP antagonist. In certain embodiments the IAP antagonist is a Smac mimetic. In certain embodiments, the Smac mimetic is birinapant. In certain embodiments, the invention provides for the use of an monovalent cIAP1 antagonist or bivalent cIAP1 and cIAP2 antagonist in the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment of a persistent HIV intracellular infection in which tumour necrosis factor (TNF) is produced in a subject.
