Zusammenfassung: | This disclosure provides a method for determining male fertility status. The method comprises determining more than one GM1 localization patterns following induced sperm capacitation selected from the group consisting of: apical acrosome (AA), acrosomal plasma membrane (APM), Lined-Cell, post acrosomal plasma membrane (PAPM), apical acrosome/post acrosome (AA/PA), intermediate (INTER), equatorial segment (ES) and diffuse (DIFF) GM1 localization patterns; assigning the AA and APM patterns to a capacitated state, identifying the percentage of various patterns, particularly the ratio of [(AA+APM)/total number of GM1 localization patterns] and determining if the percentage of certain GM1 localization patterns in response to induced capacitation is altered. In a particular embodiment, the total number of GM1 localization patterns comprises AA, APM, Lined-Cell, PAMP, AA/PA, INTER, ES and DIFF localization patterns. Based on the change in the percentage of localization patterns of certain patterns in response to induced capacitation, alone or in combination with other sperm attributes, male fertility status can be identified. |
