Zusammenfassung:The end face (first end) of a gear box casing is held up against the underside of an upper template 1 and a support rod 19, 20 is moved beneath the casing by rotation of the shaft 12 via a rotatable knob B to support the casing against the underside of the template plate 1. The shaft 12 is provided with a compression spring between the knob and the top side of the template to provide an upward spring force on the rod 19. Alignment pins are inserted through holes in the template into the upper end of the casing to laterally align the casing with the template and then the casing is clamped up firmly against the underside of the template by a jack 7 acting on a connecting block 9 and a triangular array of protrusions 11 which press against the underside (other end) of the casing. The hinged connection between the top plate 10 and the connection block 9 and the triangular array of protrusions allow for firm clamping of the casing against the underside of the template despite that the lower end face of the casing may not be even. The internal upward facing space within the casing may then be accurately machined by a tool projecting through apertures within the template.
