Pharmaceutical compositions of spiro-oxindole compound for topical administration and their use as therapeutic agents

This disclosure is directed to pharmaceutical compositions for topical administration to a mammal, wherein the pharmaceutical compositions comprise the (S)-enantiomer of 1'-{ [5-(trifluoromethyl)furan-2-yl]methyl} spiro[furo[2,3-f][1,3]benzodioxole-7,3'-indol]-2'(1'H)-one, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and two or more excipients such as solvents, one or more penetration enhancing agents, one or more stiffening agents, or one or more ointment bases. These pharmaceutical compositions are useful for the treatment and/or prevention of pain such as neuropathic pain, inflammatory pain, visceral pain, post-herpetic neuralgia, cancer pain, chemotherapy pain, trauma pain, surgical pain, post-operative pain, pruritis, osteoarthritis pain, trigeminal neuralgia, familial erythromelalgia, primary erythromelalgia, familial rectal pain, childbirth pain, labor pain, neurogenic bladder, ulcerative colitis pain, chronic pain, persistent pain, peripherally mediated pain, centrally mediated pain, chronic headache pain, migraine headache pain, sinus headache pain, tension headache pain, phantom limb pain, or peripheral nerve injury pain, and combinations thereof.
