Analysing breath samples for volatile organic compound

Provided is a method of using pentylfuran as a biomarker to detect microorganisms, expecially fungal pathogens and Aspergillus sp. in gaseous biosamples from breath of an animal, including human, or from an air sample from a microbial culture.
