A system and method for purchasing goods and services through data network access points over a point of sale network

A method for purchasing goods or services using a mobile component identifying a prepaid account, is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of: (a) accessing a point-of-sale terminal device; (b) selecting a good or service for purchase through the point-of-sale terminal device; (c) receiving a prepaid account identification through the point-of-sale terminal device from the mobile component by electronically interacting between the point-of-sale terminal device and the mobile component; (d) providing payment information and prepaid account identification in a user transaction request through the point-of-sale terminal device to a transaction system of a data network via a point-of-sale network, wherein the transaction system includes a routing system and an application server which act as intermediaries between a plurality of financial institutions and a plurality of provider systems; and (e) replenishing the prepaid account by submitting the prepaid account identification from the transaction system to one of the provider systems of the selected good or service.
