Zusammenfassung:Disclosed is a process for the production of 17beta-hydroxy-7alpha-methyl-19-nor-17alpha-pregn-5(10)-ene-20-yne-3-one (tibolone) of the formula (11). The process comprises the step of reacting a compound of formula (6) with copper(II) bromide in the presence of an alcohol R2-OH; wherein the substituents R and R2 are as defined in the specification, to form a product mixture comprising a compound of formula (7); and optionally contacting the product mixture with a base.
