Zusammenfassung:An indoline compound represented by the general formula (I), a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of the compound; and a medicinal composition containing the indoline compound or pharmaceutically acceptable salt is disclosed, wherein the substituents for the variables are as defined in the specification. These compounds exhibit an excellent acyl-coenzyme A: cholesterol acyl transferase (ACAT) inhibitory activity and lipid peroxidation inhibitory activity and are useful as an ACAT inhibitor or lipid peroxidation inhibitor, hence they are suitable for the prophylaxis or treatment of arteriosclerosis, hyperlipidemia, arteriosclerotic lesion in diabetes, ischemic diseases of brain and heart.
