Animal control system

An animal control system includes a transducer assembly physically associated with the animal, a control unit, and an actuator assembly intimately associated with the animal. The control unit includes an assembly that includes "on-board" data, receives individual animal data from the transducer assembly, that data being the animal identity code plus an indication of the onset of oestrus for example, and assesses the received individual animal data with respect to historical individual animal data stored as on board data in the control unit. In accordance with the assessment a command is formulated in accordance with the individual animal data and transmitted to an actuator intimately associated with the animal. The command might be a command to an actuator to release a hormone to prime the animal for artificial insemination for example. The control unit is functionally separate from the actuator and transducer assemblies, meaning that the communication between the units is a messaging rather than direct data writing/reading communication.
