Zusammenfassung: | Nutritional compositions for the prevention and treatment of cachexia include 1000mg per litre of 'omega'-3 fatty acids such as alpha-linolenic acid, stearidonic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid, docosapentaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid or mixtures thereof; at least 50 gm per litre of a source of amino nitrogen, 15% to 50% by weight of these being branched-chain amino acids such asvaline, leucine, isoleucine or mixtures thereof, tryptophan being less than 5% by weight of the total amino-nitrogen; and at least 1 gm per litre of an antioxidant system comprising beta-carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E, and selenium. |
